Gartner Highlights AI, Deepfake and OT Risks for Cybersecurity Leaders
Gartner identified four critical and unpredictable cyber threats—deepfakes, AI application compromise, prompt injection and software‑supply‑chain attacks—and urged security leaders to expand protections beyond traditional measures. The firm recommended mapping new AI attack surfaces, applying secure development lifecycles, strengthening data classification, adopting purpose‑based access controls and deploying layered defenses and deepfake detection technologies.
In parallel, operational‑technology (OT) security updates warned of multiple vulnerabilities in programmable logic controllers used in critical infrastructure, a ransomware incident that disrupted a municipal water‑treatment plant, and new guidance from the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) on securing industrial control systems. Experts also released best‑practice recommendations for network segmentation to limit attack spread within OT environments.
