Garuda Indonesia to implement piece-based baggage policy

Garuda Indonesia will implement a new baggage policy starting September 1, 2026, transitioning from a weight-based system to a piece-based concept. Under this new scheme, passengers will be restricted by the number of suitcases allowed rather than a total combined weight.

Neil Raymond Mills, Director of Transformation at Garuda Indonesia, stated that the change aims to provide passengers with clearer information regarding the number of bags and weight limits per bag during travel planning. Passengers will no longer be able to consolidate their total weight allowance into a single suitcase; the number of pieces specified on the e-ticket will serve as the primary reference.

The new regulations include:

- Domestic Economy Class: One suitcase with a maximum weight of 23 kilograms. - International Economy Class: Up to two suitcases, each with a maximum weight of 23 kilograms. - Business and First Class: Up to two suitcases, each with a maximum weight of 32 kilograms, depending on the route and ticket type.

Specific baggage allowances remain subject to the flight route, travel class, and ticket type as indicated on the e-ticket.
