Garuda Linux releases Temeraire update with new kernel

Garuda Linux has released Temeraire (260819), its first major update in over a year. The Arch-based distribution is transitioning its naming convention from birds of prey to dragon names, inspired by the Temeraire novels.

A significant technical change is the shift from the linux-zen kernel to a new linux-garuda kernel based on CachyOS, which features the EEVDF scheduler and automatic Nvidia DKMS builds. The release also introduces the FireDragon 13 privacy-focused rewrite and a consolidated system management toolbox.

Desktop environments have seen various updates, including eleven available editions such as KDE Plasma, GNOME, and a new Rust-based COSMIC variant. KDE Plasma editions now utilize the Plasma Login Manager. The Hyprland edition has been fully rewritten in Lua, featuring new presets and tools like hyprlock and Kitty. Additionally, the Sway edition now provides out-of-the-box support for Nvidia hardware.
