Garut Police expose false robbery report by 24-year-old man
A 24-year-old man identified as GM has admitted to filing a false police report claiming he was a victim of a violent robbery in Garut, West Java. GM initially reported that three men on two motorcycles attacked him with a sharp weapon near the Cilopang area on September 17, 2026, stealing approximately Rp2.1 million, an ATM card, a mobile phone, and a sling bag.
Following an investigation, the Garut Police found discrepancies between the report and the actual facts on the ground. After reviewing CCTV footage from various locations and conducting field inspections, authorities confronted the man, who subsequently confessed that the robbery incident never occurred.
AKP Herman Saputra, Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Garut Police, stated that GM will be charged under Article 361 of the Indonesian Criminal Code (KUHP), which carries a potential prison sentence of up to one year.
