Garut Police investigate alleged illegal levies at Talaga Bodas
Garut Police are investigating allegations of illegal levies at the Talaga Bodas natural tourism area in the Wanaraja District, West Java. The investigation follows a viral social media video involving two tourists who claimed they were charged extra money after their visit.
The incident occurred on August 20, 2026. According to reports, the tourists paid a 10,000 IDR entrance fee and were subsequently asked for 40,000 IDR by a local motorcycle taxi driver. While local regulations state that private vehicles are only permitted up to the stall area—requiring visitors to walk or use local transport to reach the lake—the discrepancy in fees led to the dispute.
Wanaraja Police have questioned the tourism managers, local youth groups (Karang Taruna), security personnel, and the driver involved to clarify the situation and determine if the charges constituted illegal extortion.
