Gary Glowacz arrested for 1987 murder of Melissa Ellison

Gary Glowacz, 70, has been arrested in connection with the 1987 killing of 20-year-old Melissa Ellison in Jacksonville, Florida. The case remained unsolved for more than 38 years.

Glowacz contacted the Clay County Sheriff’s Office on July 8, stating he wanted to “set things straight.” According to arrest reports, he confessed to hitting Ellison with a log during a burglary while searching for money to fund a drug habit. At the time of the crime in December 1987, Glowacz was 31 years old.

Glowacz faces charges of second-degree murder and armed burglary with assault or battery. He is currently being held without bond in the Duval County Jail. The victim's daughter, Casie Ellison, noted the emotional impact of the case as she reached the same age her mother was when she died.
