Gary McCoy emerges as frontrunner in San Francisco supervisor race
Gary McCoy has emerged as the presumed frontrunner for the San Francisco District 8 supervisor race following the withdrawal of candidate Manny Yekutiel. Yekutiel, who had significant financial backing and endorsements from Mayor Daniel Lurie and Board of Supervisors President Rafael Mandelman, pulled out of the contest after allegations of sexual assault were published.
Rep. Nancy Pelosi, who has endorsed McCoy, recently joined him on the campaign trail to canvass neighborhoods such as Dolores Heights. Pelosi described McCoy as a “serious person” with a history of community advocacy, specifically noting his work helping individuals transition from addiction.
Since Yekutiel’s exit, McCoy has gained momentum, securing endorsements from over a dozen politicians, including former supervisors Scott Wiener and Bevan Dufty. While the race remains a contest involving Michael Nguyen and Darshini Patel, McCoy currently holds the most significant institutional backing and campaign funding.
