Gary Medel rejects return to Chile national team

Gary Medel has rejected Arturo Vidal’s proposal to bring back veteran players from Chile’s ‘golden generation’ to support the national team. In an interview with Las Últimas Noticias, the Universidad Católica defender stated he does not agree with the idea, noting that the demands of the national team are too high and that his time representing Chile has passed.

Regarding his professional future, Medel addressed rumors of retirement. While he expressed a desire to retire at Universidad Católica, he clarified that he intends to continue playing in 2027, whether with his current club or another team domestically or abroad. He acknowledged that recent injuries and performance levels may affect his standing with the club, but he remains committed to continuing his career on the pitch.
