Gary Myers, NASCAR and modified racing veteran, dies at 76

Racing veteran Gary Myers has passed away at the age of 76. His death was confirmed by his family on September 10, following a period of declining health.

A fixture at North Carolina’s Bowman Gray Stadium for 60 years, Myers earned 38 wins in Modified competition at the track. His professional career included starts in the NASCAR Cup Series and the Grand National Series between 1974 and 1978. He was also a founding member and the 1996 champion of the SMART Modified Tour.

Myers leaves behind a racing legacy through his sons, Burt and Jason, and his grandson, Slate, who are all active drivers. The racing community, including the SMART Modified Tour and Bowman Gray Stadium, has issued tributes honoring his contributions to the sport.
