Gary Stevenson quits YouTube over health concerns

Wealth‑tax campaigner and former City trader Gary Stevenson announced he will retire from his YouTube channel that reached 1.6 million subscribers. In a video titled “It’s time to say goodbye” he cited burnout and health issues as the reason for ending his weekly series.

The decision follows a mixed reaction to the Channel 4 documentary “How to Get Filthy Rich with Gary Stevenson”, which featured criticism of his proposal for a 2 % tax on personal wealth above £10 million – a plan he says could raise £24 billion a year for the Treasury. Tax lawyer Dan Neidle called the proposal “populist claptrap”, while The Guardian described the documentary as “faintly embarrassing”. Despite the criticism, the wealth‑tax idea is gaining traction, with new prime minister Andy Burnham showing interest. Stevenson is also known for his memoir “Trading Game”, recounting how he made millions as a Citibank employee after the financial crisis.
