Gary Tom Keesee Jr. faces closing arguments in sexual abuse trial
Closing arguments have been delivered in the bench trial of Gary ‘Tom’ Keesee Jr., a former church leader accused of multiple counts of sexual abuse against minors. Keesee, the son of Faith Life Church pastors Drenda and Gary Keesee Sr., waived his right to a jury trial, leaving Knox County Common Pleas Judge Richard Wetzel to render the verdict.
The prosecution alleges that Keesee committed sexual assault against four victims, aged 5 to 15, over a 15-year period beginning in 2001. While the indictment included counts related to a fourth victim, Judge Wetzel dismissed those specific charges after the victim was unable to return to the stand for cross-examination. The remaining 27 counts involve three victims and include allegations of first-degree rape, sexual imposition, and unlawful sexual conduct.
During the proceedings, testimony included details regarding a family van and alleged incidents occurring within it. The defense has argued that the allegations are part of a campaign against the Keesee family and the church following a media report on sexual abuse, claiming the accusations resulted in devastating professional and personal consequences for the family.
