Gas cylinder explosion in Malé injures four and displaces 41

A gas cylinder explosion occurred at G. Dhoogas Villa in Malé early Monday morning, injuring four expatriate workers. The victims, including two Indian nationals and two Bangladeshi nationals, were transported to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH). One individual remains in critical condition on ventilator support, while others are being treated for burns of varying severity.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) reported that 15 expatriates were safely evacuated from the five-bedroom apartment. Additionally, 26 residents of a neighboring building were provided with temporary housing after the explosion disrupted their water supply. In total, 41 people have been displaced and provided with emergency accommodation.

Authorities have contacted the sponsors of the affected expatriate workers to arrange long-term housing and support. Police are currently investigating the cause of the incident.
