Gas Exporting Countries Forum concludes summit in Moscow
The eighth summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) concluded in Moscow, bringing together leaders and high-ranking officials from 12 member nations and several observer states. Key attendees included Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
In their final declaration, member nations—who collectively control approximately 70 percent of the world's proven gas reserves—expressed firm opposition to unilateral sanctions and coercive measures outside the framework of the United Nations. The forum warned that such actions, along with geopolitical tensions and tariffs, negatively impact stability, security, and investment flows in the global energy market.
The summit focused on several strategic pillars, including the necessity of long-term contracts and diverse pricing mechanisms to reduce market volatility. Participants also agreed on establishing crisis response mechanisms to coordinate and assess external shocks, ensuring a reliable supply of gas. Additionally, the forum emphasized the role of natural gas as a clean, low-carbon resource essential for the global energy transition.
