Gas flexible thefts rise in La Plata and Mar del Plata

Theft of gas flexible connectors is increasing in Argentine cities, posing significant safety risks to residents. In La Plata, the distributor Camuzzi has recorded 450 incidents so far this year, with approximately 100 occurring in the last month alone. In Mar del Plata, the number of recorded thefts has reached 530 cases this year, including over 60 incidents in the past month.

Criminals target the metal components that connect domestic services to regulators and meters, often selling them on the black market. Because these thefts are carried out without technical expertise, they frequently cause uncontrolled gas leaks, leaving homes vulnerable to explosions, fires, and intoxication. Additionally, victims face repair costs exceeding 100,000 pesos.

Camuzzi has advised residents to inspect connections regularly and warned that any intervention must be performed by authorized personnel. In the event of a suspected leak, citizens are urged to avoid creating sparks—such as using light switches or matches—and to contact the distributor immediately.
