Gas leak in Den Helder forces evacuations

A gas leak in a residential block on Zuiderzeestraat in Den Helder led to the evacuation of 38 homes on Thursday evening. Emergency services responded to reports of a gas odor around 5:00 PM.

While the gas supply has been shut off, firefighters are still using specialized fans to ventilate the buildings. As a result, residents of 29 homes were able to return, but nine households remained displaced for the night.

Two individuals were transported to the hospital for medical evaluation following the incident. The utility provider, Liander, is scheduled to continue investigating the source of the leak on Friday.
