Guanajuato fuel seizure: FGR transfers investigation to FEMDO

The Mexican Attorney General's Office (FGR) has transferred the investigation regarding the seizure of approximately 59 million liters of fuel in San José Iturbide, Guanajuato, to the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime (FEMDO). The transfer was ordered due to the complexity of the case, which involves verifying the ownership, operation, and financial and fiscal traceability of the gasoline and diesel found during a judicial search.

Authorities stated that the companies involved have not yet provided complete documentation to prove the legal origin, handling, and destination of the fuel. This has led to investigations into potential crimes related to hydrocarbons and federal tax fraud.

In response, Grupo SIMSA, through its operator Gas Natural del Noroeste, has denied any wrongdoing. The company maintains that the terminal operates legally under federal permits and serves as a storage provider for various clients, including Pemex and ExxonMobil. SIMSA asserts that the fuel belongs to these clients rather than the terminal itself, and that the legality of the products can be verified through their respective documentation.
