Gas prices drop in Western Pennsylvania amid record national autumn highs

Gasoline prices in Western Pennsylvania have decreased by six cents this week, bringing the regional average to $4.577 per gallon. Localized prices vary, with Pittsburgh averaging $4.701 and Sharon at $4.51.

Despite this regional dip, the national average remains at a historic high for the autumn season. This marks the first October on record where the national average has remained above $4 per gallon. While the national average saw a slight one-cent decrease to $4.36, prices are significantly higher than the $3.12 average recorded a year ago.

Fluctuations in crude oil prices continue to influence fuel costs. After briefly dropping into the $80-per-barrel range, crude oil prices have climbed back above $90 per barrel. Data from the Energy Information Administration indicates that while domestic gasoline supply increased slightly, gasoline production saw a decrease.
