Chile's ENAP announces $33 gasoline and $28 diesel price hikes
The Empresa Nacional del Petróleo (ENAP) confirmed that, starting at midnight on Thursday 30 July, gasoline of 93 and 97 octane will increase by $32.9 per litre and diesel by $28.5 per litre. The adjustment is expected to stay in effect for three weeks. ENAP clarified that it does not set or regulate the final retail prices; independent distributors determine the amount paid by consumers.
The price calculations incorporate import costs from the United States Gulf coast, maritime freight charges and the parameters of the fuel‑price stabilization mechanisms (MEPCO and the Fuel Stabilization Fund). ENAP linked the hike to recent geopolitical developments – heightened Middle‑East tensions, a rebound in Brent crude to around US$90‑100 per barrel and a stronger Chilean peso – after a brief period of declining fuel prices.
