Gaspar experiences road collapse following heavy rainfall

Heavy rainfall in Gaspar, Santa Catarina, has caused significant infrastructure damage, including a road collapse on Rua Adelina Chiminelli in the Barracão neighborhood. The section of the road crumbled toward a stream, making passage temporarily impossible.

The municipality recorded an average of 90 mm of rain within a 24-hour period. The Civil Defense has registered 15 weather-related occurrences, with the Barracão area identified as the most critical. Local authorities, including the Secretariat of Works and Urban Services and the Traffic Superintendency (DITRAN), are working on signaling the area and managing the site.

Forecasts indicate that rainy conditions are expected to persist through Tuesday, potentially leading to further flooding and disruptions. Residents are advised to avoid flooded areas and high-risk locations.
