Gassco confirms readiness for European winter gas demand
Norwegian gas operator Gassco has confirmed that its infrastructure is prepared to meet high European demand during the upcoming winter season. Following the completion of scheduled maintenance, the system is reported to be fully functional and ready for the peak delivery period starting October 1.
Europe enters this winter season facing more challenging market conditions than last year, characterized by lower gas storage levels—currently at approximately 70 percent compared to 82 percent at the same time last year—and significantly higher prices. Gas prices in Europe have more than doubled, reaching approximately 73 euro per MWh.
Norway remains a critical supplier, covering roughly 30 percent of Europe’s gas imports. In 2025, Gassco delivered 114.9 billion cubic meters of gas through its 8,800-kilometer pipeline network. Additionally, the operator noted that security measures for gas infrastructure have been increased to mitigate the risk of sabotage, following the 2022 Nord Stream incidents.
