Gastón Gaudio seeks Qatari investment for Independiente presidency

Former tennis player Gastón Gaudio is advancing his potential candidacy for the presidency of the Argentine football club Independiente. As part of his preparations, Gaudio met with the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, in Miami to discuss commercial and financing agreements.

Reports suggest the discussions involve significant economic deals that could be implemented if Gaudio wins the elections. These potential agreements include sponsorship for the club's jersey and naming rights for the Libertadores de América-Ricardo Enrique Bochini stadium. While the scale of the deal is described as “astronomic,” official figures and specific contract details have not been publicly released.

Gaudio has a history of commercial ties with Qatari interests in Argentine football, having previously been linked to Qatar Airways' sponsorship of Boca Juniors in 2018. Securing high-level sponsorship is a key pillar of his institutional proposal to ensure the resources necessary for a competitive management team.
