Gasto Brasil platform to monitor Brazilian public spending

The Confederation of Commercial and Business Associations of Brazil (CACB) and the Confederation of Agriculture and Livestock of Brazil (CNA) are launching the ‘Gasto Brasil’ platform at the Chamber of Deputies on August 11. The online tool is designed to monitor and increase transparency regarding public expenditures across federal, state, and municipal governments.

The platform organizes official data on human resources, social security, taxes, and public works into accessible visual formats. It includes features such as interactive maps, historical series dating back to 2018, and indicators like spending per inhabitant. For example, data shows that primary public spending in Santa Catarina reached R$ 34 billion between January 1 and July 31, 2026, averaging approximately R$ 4,500 per person.

Nationally, government spending reached R$ 3.3 trillion, with the federal government accounting for over R$ 1.5 trillion (46% of the total). States and municipalities recorded R$ 897 billion and R$ 879.5 billion in expenses, respectively. The initiative aims to strengthen social control and provide data-driven information for public management and legislative oversight.
