Gate House in Llannon, Wales Sold at Auction

The 19th‑century Gate House, a former toll‑gate built by the Three Commotts Turnpike Trust in Llannon near Llanelli, Carmarthenshire, was sold at auction by Paul Fosh Auctions. The property, once the focal point of the Rebecca Riots (1839‑1843) when farmers disguised as women attacked toll gates, has been converted into a two‑bedroom detached cottage with a garden, outbuilding, double‑glazed windows and electric storage heating.

Listed with a guide price of £69,000, the house attracted seven bids from five bidders and sold for £75,000. The auction highlights the continued interest in historic Welsh homes linked to the turbulent protest movement that challenged toll charges during a period of agricultural depression.
