GATE Institute presents AI tools to combat disinformation

The Big Data for an Intelligent Society (GATE) Institute hosted the international seminar ‘From Analysis to Action,’ showcasing artificial intelligence tools designed to identify manipulative content and disinformation. The forum brought together scholars, representatives from European institutions, media, and research organizations.

Key presentations included Professor Preslav Nakov, who demonstrated how large language models can be used for automated fact-checking and media content analysis. Professor Ruslan Mitkov highlighted applications of language technologies in education and translation, noting that automated methods can create test assignments four times faster.

Specific GATE developments were also unveiled, including a tool for detecting logical fallacies presented by Stanislav Penkov, and an application for analyzing political narratives demonstrated by Dobromir Tsolov and Georgi Goranov. Professor Silvia Ilieva, head of the GATE Institute, stated that the goal is to transform scientific research into practical solutions that support informed choice and critical thinking. Participants emphasized that while AI is a powerful aid for journalists and researchers, it cannot replace human judgment and results should be verified with reliable evidence.
