Gate user awaits recovery of $1.7 million after account breach

A user of the cryptocurrency exchange Gate is still seeking answers and recovery of $1.7 million in assets forty days after filing a criminal case. The loss, reported in early July 2026, included approximately 50 ETH, hundreds of thousands of HSK tokens, and over 1.5 million USDT.

The victim, using the handle @jheioff, claims their identity-verified account was compromised despite having multiple security layers, including Google Authenticator and phone authentication. While Gate initially suggested the security changes were initiated by the user, the exchange later apologized and committed to a formal reinvestigation.

Despite public commitments from Gate leadership to take “full responsibility for this matter to the end,” the victim reports that no lawyers or exchange representatives have followed up since the criminal case was filed.
