Dutch prog-rock trio Gates of Kiev releases self‑titled debut album
The Dutch progressive‑rock band Gates of Kiev announced the release of their eponymous debut album, scheduled for October 2 on LP, CD and digital platforms. The record features four extended instrumental tracks, including the lead preview “Hamlet Burns,” which drummer Hessel Braat says portrays a journey of loss and transformation set against a Dutch winter landscape.
Formed by organist Tomas Mesman and drummer Hessel Braat, the trio later added bassist Eszl De Vois after meeting him on the Amsterdam live‑music circuit. Influenced by Emerson, Lake & Palmer and 1970s prog, the band’s sound blends high‑energy performances with long, mostly instrumental compositions. The album was mixed and mastered by Jacob Holm‑Lupo of White Willow in Norway, with cover art by Italian illustrator Mont Doom. Pre‑orders are available through The Laser’s Edge webshop and Bandcamp.
