Gatineau Park closed following discovery of human remains
Police in western Quebec have launched an investigation following the discovery of human remains in Gatineau Park near Chelsea. The remains were found by a hiker on September 9.
Officers from the MRC des Collines-de-l'Outaouais police and park conservation agents have established a security perimeter. While authorities stated it is too early to determine the identity, sex, or nature of the case, they noted that no immediate danger to park users is suspected. A spokesperson mentioned that previous similar discoveries in the area often involved individuals who had passed away months prior.
The National Capital Commission (NCC) has closed several areas of the park to facilitate the investigation, including the P16 Meech Creek Valley parking lot on chemin Pine, as well as trails 36, 45, 47, and 50. Authorities have requested that the public avoid the immediate sector.
