Gatta Morta supergroup releases debut EP “Burn Witch Burn”

A new supergroup called Gatta Morta has been formed by Buzz Osborne (guitar/vocals, the Melvins), JD Pinkus (bass/vocals, Butthole Surfers), Coady Willis (drums/vocals, Big Business/Melvins) and Clinton Jacob (guitar/vocals, Chicago noise‑rock duo Mr. Phylzzz). The quartet announced the release of their debut four‑track EP Burn Witch Burn on Amphetamine Reptile Records. The EP contains “Taco Bellboy”, “Victims of the Universe”, “Black Hall” and “Clear Smoke”. A visualizer for the lead single “Black Hall” was released alongside the EP; the track is currently the only song available on streaming services, while the full EP is offered as a physical CD with a vinyl edition planned.

Osborne said, “It’s always a good time for the world to embrace a new heavy/weird band… I had the idea for Gatta Morta while touring last fall.” Pinkus added, “It’s been way too long since I got to write a heavy album from scratch with such high‑caliber players… we’re just scratching the surface.” Jacob and Willis also expressed enthusiasm for the project. The release marks the first output from the collaboration of members from the Melvins, Butthole Surfers, Big Business and Mr. Phylzzz.
