Gaudiya Vaishnava teachings on the Hare Krishna maha-mantra

The Sri Siksastakam is a collection of eight Sanskrit verses written by Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu (1486–1535), the founder of the Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition. These verses serve as primary written teachings focusing on the practice, philosophy, and spiritual effects of the congregational chanting, known as sankirtana, of the Hare Krishna maha-mantra.

According to these teachings, chanting the holy name of Lord Krsna can cleanse the heart, stop the miseries of material existence, and expand the blissful ocean of transcendental life. A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada describes Krsna consciousness as the original energy of the living entity rather than an artificial imposition. He teaches that while material association pollutes this consciousness, the transcendental vibration of the maha-mantra serves as a method to revive it and allow individuals to experience spiritual ecstasy.
