Gauhati High Court hears bail pleas in Zubeen Garg death case
The Gauhati High Court is conducting legal proceedings regarding the death of Assamese singer Zubeen Garg. The court recently granted bail to Amrit Prabha Mahanta, one of seven accused in the case. Justice Pranjal Das approved the bail with a bond of Rs 50,000 and two sureties of the same amount.
Following Mahanta’s release, the court has resumed hearings for the bail application of Sandipan Garg, an accused in the case. The proceedings are currently at a stage of final arguments.
Zubeen Garg died in September 2022 while swimming off the coast of Singapore during the North East India Festival. While a Singapore Coroner’s Court concluded the death was a drowning caused by intoxication and a failure to wear a life jacket—with the Singapore Police Force finding no evidence of foul play—authorities in Assam are continuing their own legal investigations and proceedings.
