Gauhati Medical College performs first robotic cardiac surgeries in Northeast India

Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) has successfully performed its first robotic cardiac surgeries in Northeast India. Between September 25 and 26, three patients underwent complex procedures at the hospital’s CN Centre.

The surgeries were conducted by the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery under the supervision of Dr. Ritwik Raj Bhuyan, a cardiac surgeon specializing in robotic techniques. Alongside the procedures, a Cardiac Robotic Surgery Workshop was held to train local specialists and doctors in the use of this advanced technology.

Assam’s Health and Family Welfare Minister, Ashok Singhal, attended the workshop, stating that the government is prioritizing the modernization of the state’s healthcare system. He emphasized that integrating cutting-edge technology with specialist expertise aims to provide advanced medical treatments to patients within Assam, reducing the need for travel elsewhere for complex care.
