Gaurav Yadav appointed regular DGP of Punjab
The Punjab government has appointed IPS officer Gaurav Yadav as the state’s regular Director General of Police (DGP). Yadav, a member of the 1992 batch, will serve a minimum tenure of two years. This appointment follows a panel provided by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), which included other senior officers such as Dr. Sharad Satya Chauhan and Harpreet Singh Sidhu.
The decision ends an interim arrangement that had been in place since July 2022. The move follows directives from the Punjab and Haryana High Court, which had previously noted that an acting arrangement should not be maintained indefinitely.
Upon his appointment, Yadav expressed a commitment to maintaining peace and harmony in the state, stating that there is ‘no place for gangsters’ in Punjab and vowing to intensify operations against criminal networks.
