Gautam Adani overtakes Mukesh Ambani as India’s richest in 2026

The 2026 M3M Hurun India Rich List has been released, revealing that Gautam Adani and his family have reclaimed the position of India’s wealthiest individuals. Their combined wealth is estimated at INR 9.23 lakh crore (USD 96 billion), surpassing Mukesh Ambani and his family, who are ranked second with INR 8.63 lakh crore (USD 90 billion).

This year’s report identifies 1,810 individuals in India with wealth exceeding INR 1,000 crore, representing a total combined wealth of INR 187.5 lakh crore (USD 1.96 trillion). The number of dollar billionaires in the country has risen to a record 391.

Other notable rankings include Lakshmi Niwas Mittal and his family in third place, followed by Cyrus S Poonawalla and family in fourth. Roshni Nadar Malhotra remains the wealthiest woman in India, ranking fifth. The report also highlights emerging sectors, noting that Artificial Intelligence has debuted as a standalone sector with 19 entrants, and Aerospace & Defence has added 23 entrants to the list.
