Gautam Gambhir discusses long-standing bond with Rohit Sharma

Indian men’s cricket head coach Gautam Gambhir has discussed his professional and personal relationship with Rohit Sharma, noting that their bond extends beyond the typical coach-captain dynamic. Gambhir highlighted that because he was a senior player when Sharma was establishing himself in international cricket, the two have a long-standing familiarity that facilitates better decision-making for the team.

The duo previously worked together as a coach-captain pair, most notably leading India to a 2025 Champions Trophy victory in the UAE. Gambhir emphasized that their shared history allows them to understand each other's thinking, ensuring that decisions are made in the best interest of Indian cricket.

While Sharma has retired from T20Is and Test cricket, he remains a key part of the ODI squad. He is scheduled to participate in a three-match home ODI series against the West Indies starting on 27 September, as the team prepares for the 2027 World Cup.
