Gauteng school raid uncovers knives, drugs and gang activity

A surprise raid was conducted at Badirile Secondary School in Khutsong, Gauteng, by Education MEC Lebogang Maile together with police. Officers seized knives, scissors, vapes, a fork and various drugs from learners.

The school has been plagued by violence, including the fatal stabbing of a 16‑year‑old Grade 9 learner in March. Police have recorded at least ten serious criminal cases involving pupils since January. Authorities identified three groups – Mawet, Delta and Up 7 – suspected of gang‑related disruption and intimidation.

MEC Maile said many learners attend only to collect food from the feeding programme and to terrorise staff and peers. She also raised allegations that five teachers may have neglected duties or been absent during school hours, promising disciplinary action if proven.
