Gavdos migrant boat capsizes: 51 rescued, 25 missing

A major search and rescue operation is underway in the waters south of Gavdos, Greece, after a migrant boat carrying approximately 77 people capsized.

Authorities have confirmed that 51 individuals have been rescued by nearby vessels. One person was recovered in an unconscious state. Based on statements from survivors, at least 25 people remain missing.

The operation is being coordinated by the National Search and Rescue Coordination Center and involves the Greek Coast Guard, the Hellenic Air Force, and Frontex. Participating assets include multiple ships, a helicopter, an aircraft, and a drone. The incident occurred approximately 38 nautical miles south of Gavdos in the Libyan Sea, a common route for migrants traveling from North Africa toward Greece.
