Gavin McKenna benched during overtime in recent Maple Leafs games

Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Gavin McKenna has recently seen a surge in production, recording his first NHL goal and two assists in recent games. Despite this offensive breakthrough, McKenna has been notably absent from the ice during overtime periods in consecutive games against the Nashville Predators and the Vegas Golden Knights.

Reports suggest the coaching staff is following a specific developmental plan for the 18-year-old. Insider Elliotte Friedman noted that the team appears to be carefully managing his involvement, citing his limited participation in preseason tournaments and optional skates as evidence of a controlled introduction to the NHL.
