Gavin McKenna poised for immediate NHL debut with Toronto Maple Leafs

Gavin McKenna, the first overall pick in the 2026 NHL Draft, is expected to join the Toronto Maple Leafs lineup this season. Following a successful stint at Penn State after playing in the WHL, the 18-year-old forward is projected to serve as a playmaker alongside captain Auston Matthews.

Toronto general manager John Chayka noted that McKenna possesses evident talent and instincts. While fans hold high expectations, analysts suggest a successful rookie season could be defined by a 60- to 65-point benchmark rather than immediate superstar-level production, allowing him time to adjust to the speed and physicality of the NHL.

Other notable prospects for the Maple Leafs include goaltender Artur Akhtyamov, who recently earned the Jack A. Butterfield Trophy as the AHL playoff MVP after helping the Marlies secure the Calder Cup.
