Gavin Newsom to launch four-day Southern tour

California Governor Gavin Newsom will launch a four-day, multi-state tour through Alabama, South Carolina, and North Carolina starting next Wednesday. Titled the ‘Take it Back Tour’, the trip is part of an effort to strengthen Democratic infrastructure and build a national political profile.

In Alabama, Newsom is scheduled to visit Montgomery to focus on civil and voting rights, including walking the U.S. Civil Rights Trail with local leaders and meeting students at Alabama State University. The tour then moves to South Carolina, where Newsom will visit several counties—including Jasper, Beaufort, Dorchester, Aiken, Lexington, and Lancaster—that were won by Donald Trump in 2024. During this leg, he will meet with voters and campaign for Democrats in competitive state House races.

The tour will conclude in North Carolina, where Newsom is expected to hold an event with the Mecklenburg County Democratic Party in Charlotte to organize and fundraise. His team has framed the visit as a response to what they describe as the erosion of voting and civil rights protections.
