A 13-bill election security package was signed to protect the state’s voting systems and prevent interference. In labor and administrative matters, Newsom vetoed Assembly Bill 1729, which would have granted state departments more flexibility regarding telework policies. The veto maintains a mandate requiring state employees to be in the office four days a week, despite arguments from unions and a 2025 audit suggesting increased telework could save the state $225 million annually.
To support the entertainment industry, Newsom signed Assembly Bill 2319, creating a new tax credit specifically for film and television post-production work. This initiative aims to retain technical talent within the state by offering credits for services like editing and visual effects, even if the primary filming occurs elsewhere.
Additionally, the Governor issued an executive order to accelerate oversight of artificial intelligence, including the potential development of an AI “kill switch” and the requirement for independent auditors within major AI laboratories.
