Gayo Lues infrastructure crippled by bridge collapses and landslides

Two vital bridges in Gayo Lues Regency, Aceh, have collapsed following intense rainfall that triggered flash floods and landslides. The destruction has isolated several communities, particularly in the Dabun Gelang district, where the Blangkejeren-Dabun Gelang route is now restricted to pedestrians and motorcycles.

In Desa Badak, water levels have reached approximately 100 cm, further hindering movement. Landslides have also blocked the Blangkejeren-Kutacane road in Desa Tetumpun. The Aceh Disaster Management Agency (BPBA) is coordinating with relevant agencies to deploy heavy equipment to manage the landslides.

The Ministry of Public Works has prioritized the restoration of the Aih Bobo bridge in Blangkejeren, which has been severed for the third time since November 2025. While crews clear debris, residents are using temporary wooden bridges to cross. Additionally, teams are working to clear seven landslide points along the Blangkejeren–Aceh Tenggara national road. To mitigate future sediment and flood risks, the Ministry is also constructing a sabo dam in the Tamiang River Basin, expected to be functional within three to four weeks.
