Gaz-System completes Racibórz–Rybnik gas pipeline in Poland

Gaz-System has finished the 39‑kilometre, 700‑mm diameter Racibórz–Rybnik gas pipeline, linking the towns of Racibórz, Nędza, Lyski, Kuźnia Raciborska and Rybnik in the Silesian region. The line is the first stage of a planned 80‑km corridor that will eventually connect Racibórz to Oświęcim and is intended to feed two new gas‑fired power units in Rybnik, enhancing regional energy security and supporting low‑emission electricity generation.

The project, part of the Coal‑to‑Gas investment programme, received €180 million (≈180 million PLN) in EU funding. Construction employed advanced, non‑excavation techniques, including an 800‑metre HDD tunnel under the Oder River. Environmental measures included the installation of over 150 bird‑ and bat‑nest boxes and the planting of more than 3,000 trees. The pipeline is expected to improve air quality and attract further investment to the area.
