Gaza ceasefire progress stalls one year after agreement

One year after a U.S.-brokered ceasefire was implemented in Gaza, the agreement has failed to achieve its primary political and reconstruction objectives. While the truce halted major combat operations and facilitated the release of hostages, several core components of the 20-point roadmap remain unfulfilled.

Key areas of stagnation include the disarmament of Hamas, the full withdrawal of Israeli forces, and the establishment of a temporary technocratic Palestinian administration supported by an international stabilization force. Currently, Israeli forces maintain control over approximately two-thirds of the territory, exceeding the 53% envisioned in the original plan. Additionally, Israeli strikes have continued, and the reconstruction of essential power, water, and communications infrastructure remains minimal due to delays in permitting dual-use materials.

Humanitarian conditions remain dire. Local reports indicate that many residents in Gaza are entirely dependent on community kitchens, water trucks, and hygiene supplies provided by aid partners. Despite the pause in large-scale military operations, the population continues to face starvation, destruction, and a lack of basic dignity and safety.
