Gaza children face severe long-term consequences after three years of conflict

Three years after the October 7, 2023, conflict involving Hamas, children in Gaza face severe physical, psychological, and living condition consequences. According to assessments by the United Nations, the European Union, and the World Bank, approximately 1.9 million people in Gaza have been displaced, with over 1.2 million losing their homes.

UNICEF estimates that roughly 19,000 children are unaccompanied or have lost one or both parents. Medical data from Doctors Without Borders indicates many children suffer from severe injuries, including limb amputations and heavy burns. The United Nations reports that over 5,000 amputations have been performed in Gaza since October 2023, with children accounting for approximately 20% of these cases.

Beyond physical trauma, humanitarian organizations warn of profound psychological impacts due to prolonged violence and displacement. As of September 2026, 91% of households in Gaza faced moderate to severe water shortages. The destruction of infrastructure, medical services, and schools continues to hinder long-term recovery and mental health support for the youth population.
