Gaza City artists paint Macklemore mural on ruins
In Gaza City, Palestinian artists Ann Radwan and Qusay Al-Halou have painted a portrait of American rapper Macklemore on a wall salvaged from destroyed buildings. The mural serves as a gesture of gratitude for Macklemore’s public support for Palestine, specifically following his recent statements of solidarity.
Radwan, 26, noted that the ongoing conflict has left very few intact surfaces for art, forcing the team to search for surviving walls amidst the ruins. The project is intended to send a message to the world that art and voices will persist despite the destruction.
The artistic team, which previously included Dhargham Qreiqea, has faced significant loss; Radwan reported that Qreiqea was killed during the conflict. Despite these losses and the scarcity of resources, the artists continue to use colors to provide hope and communicate their experiences to the international community.
