Gaza: 112 bodies recovered as Israeli attacks kill 18 and Israel raises security concerns over Hamas disarmament plan

Israeli forces bombed Gaza on 2 August 2026, killing at least 18 Palestinians, including women and children, despite U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement of a total Hamas disarmament plan. Israel’s Energy Minister Eli Cohen said no cease‑fire agreement exists and that Israel may seek full control of the enclave. Israeli officials also voiced “serious security concerns” about the disarmament deal, warning that Hamas could rebuild its weapons if Israel withdraws prematurely.

In parallel, Gaza’s civil defence agency completed a two‑week search in the Sabra neighbourhood, recovering the remains of 112 people – 40 children, 38 women and seven persons with disabilities – after 136 hours of hand‑digging. The International Committee of the Red Cross supported the operation, which still leaves 157 bodies unaccounted for. The Gaza Ministry of Health says the war has caused more than 73,300 deaths since the October 2023 conflict began.
