Thousands of Palestinians gathered in Gaza City's Zeitoun neighborhood for a mass funeral following the recovery of approximately 100 remains from the rubble of destroyed residential buildings. The victims, belonging to the Rahim, Balawi, Malaka, Qanbour, and Salmi families, were reportedly killed during Israeli strikes approximately two and a half years ago.

Among the recovered remains, reports indicate that between 60 and 70 were children. The remains were laid out near the ruins of the homes and draped in Palestinian flags before being taken to cemeteries, including al-Ma’madani and Al-Ahli, for burial.

Gaza's Civil Defense reported that recovery operations are being severely hindered by a lack of heavy machinery, deteriorating equipment, and restrictions on the entry of necessary tools. Officials noted that the second phase of a recovery project, launched in July, involves searching 147 destroyed sites. Authorities estimate that over 1,000 bodies remain buried under the rubble across Gaza City and other northern and central areas.
