Gaza displacement: Huda Helassa recounts loss of home and belongings
Huda Helassa, a 20-year-old from Tal al-Hawa in Gaza City, has experienced repeated displacement since the start of the war. When fleeing her home in the initial hours of the conflict, she chose to carry a signed T-shirt from the Access Microscholarship Program, a U.S.-funded initiative providing English-language and cultural education.
Helassa's family has moved through several locations, including Gaza City, Rafah, Khan Younis, Remal, and az-Zawayda. Upon returning to their home in January 2025, they discovered the residence had been completely destroyed by fire, leaving them with no personal belongings or photographs.
