Gaza envelope observers warn of security threats similar to pre-October 7

Female observers serving along the Gaza envelope have raised alarms, stating that recent activity from Hamas militants and suspicious individuals mirrors the conditions seen prior to the October 7 attacks. The observers report identifying suspects and militants approaching the ‘yellow line’ on a daily basis, yet they face significant difficulties in obtaining authorization to act.

According to reports, the hierarchy for obtaining firing permissions is increasingly rigid; while field commanders may grant quick approval, higher-ranking officers make the process much more difficult. One observer noted a sense of helplessness, describing a situation where suspicious activity, such as an individual handling weapons or digging in the ground, is reported but results in no physical intervention due to orders from higher command levels.

In response, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Israel will continue to thwart any threat to its citizens and soldiers. The Prime Minister’s Office denied claims that political leadership is restricting military forces, asserting that the IDF is not being prevented from removing threats and that the Chief of Staff has clarified opening fire instructions.
