Gaza Government Media Office issues urgent appeal for 2.15 million displaced persons
The Government Media Office in Gaza has issued an urgent appeal to address a catastrophic housing and living situation for displaced persons. According to data from the national shelter system, there are 509,393 displaced families, totaling more than 2.15 million individuals.
Of these, approximately 1,027,396 people are located within shelter centers, while 1,122,566 are outside of them. Specifically, 196,287 families, comprising 867,228 individuals, are living in primitive and worn-out tents that are deemed unfit for human habitation.
The office warned of an imminent humanitarian disaster as winter approaches, noting that vulnerable groups—including over 46,000 elderly people, nearly 60,000 orphans, and over 15,000 people with disabilities—are at high risk. Additionally, more than half a million children face threats from infectious diseases and lack of safe shelter. The appeal calls on the international community to pressure for the entry of temporary housing units, insulation materials, and debris removal programs.
